Characteristics of storage requirements for video surveillance

Release Time:2017/07/07Number Views:2118Release Source:本站
Author:Shenzhen huaruicom Technology Co.Ltd.

Summary:Video surveillance has several characteristics in terms of storage requirements: 1. The storage capacity requirements of video surveillance are highly flexible. The required storage capacity increases exponentially with improvements in image quality, screen size, and the number of video lines. 2. Video surveillance does not have high performance requirements for storage, but it needs to be able to handle continuous data read and write operations over extended periods.

Key Words:

Video surveillance has several characteristics in terms of storage requirements:

1. The storage capacity requirements of video surveillance are highly elastic. Storage capacity increases exponentially with improvements in image quality, screen size, and the number of video lines.

2. Video surveillance does not have high performance requirements for storage, but it needs to be able to handle continuous data read/write operations for extended periods, with high data traffic but low access request frequency.

3. Data retention periods are short. Data in typical monitoring locations is retained for a certain period (e.g., one month) before deletion. Based on the storage system requirements of the video surveillance system, different storage solutions can be developed to address different needs. Distributed independent video storage is characterized by small data volumes, dispersed data collection points, limited investment in video surveillance equipment, short data retention periods, and low data security requirements.

This method uses a DAS connection, directly connecting an external storage device to each video surveillance server or industrial control computer for storage expansion. This method has low initial purchase costs and manageable small-scale maintenance costs, but it is not easily expandable, and maintenance costs increase rapidly with the expansion of the video surveillance network. Suitable storage solutions for this type include community video surveillance systems, campus video surveillance systems, video surveillance systems for small and medium-sized enterprises, and video surveillance systems in remote areas.

Centralized network video storage is characterized by large data volumes, extensive and relatively centralized video lines, high video surveillance density, long data retention periods, and high data security requirements. A SAN (Sans-Content Array) connection method allows each video surveillance server or industrial control computer to directly connect to the SAN storage network, using centralized storage devices. This method has a higher initial purchase cost but is easy to expand and has low long-term maintenance costs. Suitable storage solutions for this type include security department video surveillance systems, urban road command centers, and highway video surveillance centers.
