Background: Changzhi is located in the southeastern part of Shanxi Province, within the southern section of the Taihang Mountains. It borders Handan (Hebei) and Anyang (Henan) to the east, Linfen to the west, Jincheng to the south, and Jinzhong to the north. The terrain slopes gently from northwest to southeast; the city spans approximately 150 kilometers at its greatest east-west extent and 140 kilometers at its widest north-south point, covering a total area of 13,896 square kilometers. Its geographical coordinates range from 111°58′03″ to 112° East longitude.

Background: Longnan is situated in the mountainous terrain formed by the east-west trending fold belt of the Western Qinling Mountains. It lies at the convergence zone of three major physiographic regions—the Qinling-Daba Mountains, the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and the Loess Plateau—and serves as a transitional zone between China's second and third topographic steps. To the west, it transitions toward the Gannan Plateau (on the northern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau); to the north, toward the Central Gansu Loess Plateau; to the south, toward the Sichuan Basin; and to the east, it borders the Western Qinling Mountains and the Hanzhong Basin.
